Honor Bands
Honor Band - Overview

Several “Honor Band” opportunities are available between November and April every year for highly qualified student musicians. Auditions generally start in October and run through November with performances in the Spring.

Rampart has had students selected in the past for the following honor ensembles:

Colorado All State Orchestra
(CU / grades 11-12)

Colorado All-State Jazz
(UNC / grades 11-12)

Colorado Springs All-Metro Honor Band
(grades 9-12)

Colorado State University Honor Band
(CSU / 1-12)

Top of the Nation Honor Band
(ASU / grades 9-12)

University of Colroado Honor Band
(CU / grades 10-12)

Western International Band Clinic
(Seattle) (grades 9-12)

Western State College Honor Band
(WSC / grades 9-12)

Music is available in the band room usually in May for students to work on during the summer and with private lessons. Interested students should check with the director or the parent volunteer coordinator for specific information.

Benefits of participating in an Honor Band include:

  • Learning from international recognized composers, clinicians and conductors.
  • A weekend of “lessons”.
  • Opportunity to see college campus and music departments in Colorado and meet professors. (Music Scholarships…)
  • Meeting other high school musicians from around the state.
  • Having a terrific weekend of music-making!

Qualifications

  • Most are open for 9th grade and above. A few limit to 10th and 11th and above.
  • Most require tape-recorded performance of audition music provided by honor band as well as a recommendation from the director.
  • Hotel/motel costs are responsibility of the student besides other expenses.
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the student unless a D20 staff member is available as a driver / chaperone.
  • Most bands meet Thursday – Saturday
