Jazz Bands

 Jazz I & II Description

Grades: 10-12
Prerequisite: Approval (Audition) by instructor only
Length of Course: 1 year
Fees: Enrichment Fee - $45/year.  Instrument rental fee $50/semester for school-owned instruments, including percussion. Method book purchase required. Payment envelope.

Two sections are offered each semester. Enrollment is determined by a comprehensive audition consistent with traditional Big Band instrumentation. This course is designed to advance jazz playing techniques and understanding of jazz terminology and idioms. Course includes ensemble rehearsal, special performances, and participation in jazz festivals/contests. Class projects include learning and playing in different styles, as well as developing improvisational techniques. This course may be taken for an art or elective credit.
