CONCERT BAND – BLUE and GOLD

Grades: 9-12
Prerequisite: Previous band course work in middle school, junior high, or previous school, and audition.
Length of Course: 1 year
Fees: Enrichment Fee - $45/year collected at check-in. Method book purchase required. Instrument rental fee $50/semester for school-owned instruments (this includes all percussion participants). See the payment envelope under FORMS for instructions on paying these fees.

Two sections of this course of study are offered each semester (BLUE and GOLD) based on equal instrumentation and by director discretion. Program of study is focused on rehearsal and performance techniques for students entering high school, or transferring from other locations, who wish to improve individual playing skills on wind and percussion instruments to ultimately perform in higher skill level ensembles/bands. Upperclassmen can participate in this concert ensemble to improve individual playing skills on secondary instruments. Emphasis of this course is on ensemble playing to improve technique, tone and range on a specific instrument, as well as enhance rhythmic understanding and sight-reading skills. This course includes extensive exposure to a wide range of repertoire, with particular attention to musical terminology. The Concert Band participates in school assemblies, music concerts, festivals, and large and small ensemble contests during the course of the academic year. This course may be taken for an art or elective credit.
